Creating Internet Memes

24.01.2006 · Posted in General

Is a difficult task.

What is the purpose in creating memes ?
Just the fucking idea that moves any stupid racoon over the Internet : be famous but not in the mainstream way, in the very deep underground way.
For example all the snail move by clim named « escarclim » can’t be a really good meme, it needs a real public owning process, actually leaking in the way the snails are drawn by this small non-hairy nazi lesbo biker girl ; her art is UNREACHABLE.

Most french guys tried but did not succeed in creating a really fine and good meme who could last forever (I mean more thant a month over) on the intraweb, we could see some in small communities, but never a good old « rally all » picture or sentence like a nice goatse or O RLY.

Wait a minute, could we qualify « DTC » as a meme ? well, maybe, maybe DTC is the one and only french meme, anyway, DTC comes from the current and spoken world, not really from the net, and its wikipedia page really sucks, wich makes it a really nasty meme, if it even is one.

What could possibly be the first french big meme, browsing bash.fr in a scientific interest, all I can see is that it’s again not really as funny as the original one, and thanks to their RSS feed, I can tell that only once a week comes out a really nice quote, which is quite a few.
So, does french humor sucks ? Yes, indeed.
And frenchies like micro-communities, small as the circle of a few friends compared to US ones, and they dislike what they could call their « opposite », a exactly same community, but which emerged another time, in another web place, it’s just not « the true one » (of course, our community is always the true one, word) .

Blogging platforms in France are as numerous as the ants in my garden, and are the perfect image of what I just explained, peoples from skyblog just ignore or reject people from 20six, who doesn’t even realize that such thing as canalblog could exists where bloggers ignore oldiblogs, a bunch of very young teenagers who couldn’t imagine a website with a custom URI would be a blog … A lot of ignorance-concentring and crossing circles, holy shit, if that was only for blogs … but music, movies, alt/culture, underground forums and pseudo-memes boards, they just fucking ignore themselves, or just shoot at one single and only target in a so boring repetitive way that their readers never stay more than one month in the meme movance.

Great memes started in a way or another from two sources : 2chan and seids, or #quake irc channels.
Yep, japaneses or old fashionned hardcore gamers, that’s where it all begins.
First, 2chan, the biggest forum of the Internet, almots every japanese has at least browsed it once, and it affects real world widely and everyday, 2chan IS Japan, that’s the deal.
From 2chan emerged a pledge of boards, mainly japanese, but the very US attempt (.jp are banned from it) is 4chan, still online after several closings.
4chan actually generates a lot of good memes, like O RLY owl or NO U, anyway, it’s full of wanabee-comic pedo graphics, which waste the not-so-safe browsing, I mean, I’m on a french gov’s computer, and with Outreau and cases like this, pedo is NOT FUNNY, even very underground, there’s no way child porn is funny, or even entertaining, that just wastes 4chan quality.
Anyway, 4chan would not be quite as good (for everything else child porn) if it wasn’t based on the hardcore gamer culture.
When talking about hardcore gamer, I don’t mean no fucking CS player, they are just as good as child porn, NOT FUNNY, and teens. Teenagers shouldn’t access the Internet, they just should fucking study to be sell-person in the furniture business.
Hardcore gamers are frome the Quake source, ultimately QuakeWorld, they were the first to gather around a really effective online game with servers, clans and communities, and IRC drop-a-link channels.
Such gamers are today everywhere behind websites as Something Awful, or 4chan (note that 4chan is an offshoot of SA), and they gather a lot of audience.

In France, humor websites are mainly links dump like langocha or taulard.net, I can’t really find a « gather everyone » link.
Oxymore once started an image-board ala 4chan, soon dead because of the lack of audience and maybe the inconvenience of the publishing tool. Oxymore is also a small range community, limited only to the blog audience and camstory visitors, generating some good memes but always stucked in their own webring due to several closings and re-open, and mainly personal attacks on french blogging figures, I mean, good memes and Internet jokes have to stay anonymous, the warry fat kid has no name, and that’s why laughing of him and alter his image is so easy, you just can’t make fun of a real person and hope to gather a large audience, mainly in France, it’s just not fucking legal, that’s it, and a normal person can’t be as fun as an ugly drooling anonymous, it just lacks of evident funny features for the common visitors to gather around and generate the meme.

So, what do we have to do ? I mean, we french tried 2buckwhore, but it’s an outrageous copy of Cliff Yablonski’s, and authors are lacking of motivation, we can’t count on vast communities like hardware fr, nofrag, gamekult, where lie HC gamers upon newbies gamers, there are just auto-satisfying, and only pasting three days to a week old links, not really creating good own myths and memes, and finally just forget BBS or bloggers, their are just rotten to the core by young and sms-writing lads, only waiting for blondes fake boobs (or goth ones).

Maybe french Internet is lost, I can’t find any saviour or fine underground culture, we are in hell, french Internet hell.

(this post was in english just because it sounds cool to add « fucking » to no interest sentences)
